Hi guys, having a problem with my 2004 130 tdci and hopefully somebody can help. When you accelerate hard, alot of black smoke comes out of the exhaust. It is more noticable in the rear view mirror at night in a following cars headlights. Also power seems to be down, not totally but definatly noticable.
I had the issue with the split egr to intercooler pipe, which was replaced, but it still seems to be smoking and power is down. I have cleaned out the egr valve, but not sure if it is actually working but nothing seems to happen when you unplug it, there is no difference in the cars running. This also applies to the MAF sensor. I’ve taken it out and sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner, and then replaced it but no difference.
When i unplug the MAF sensor with the engine running should something happen, or is this a sign it isnt working properly? I drove a short difference with it disconnected and it seemed exactly the same. The car isnt running rough etc like i thought it would with this dsconnected? The fuel/air filters are new so this shouldnt be the problem.
Také bych měl zmínit, že nemám zapnutá žádná výstražná světla a zdá se, že mpg kleslo. Zjistil jsem, že dělám cca 38 mpg po městě.
Any help would be much appreciated before i try replacing parts.

Block the EGR and see if it gets better. You will notice the diesel smoke in the rear mirror at night thats
docela normální. Pokud nevidíte auto za sebou, není to tak dobré.
Check the rest of the pipes the EGR one isnt the only one that can split.
Under the car there is a small 6″ or so rubber pipe and mine came off completely.
Žádná výstražná světla, jen nedostatek energie a spousta kouře. Pokud to brzy nevyřešíte, bude to blábol
will get into the EGR, Manifold and engine and turbo as well.

Don’t think it’s too common, but the metal pipe that runs across the front of the engine can blow a hole aswell.

check intercooler for splits, thats exactly what happened to mine, low power and heaps of smoke out the exhaust, one way of telling if you are over fueling is to full throttle the car whilst stationary like they do at a mot test, do this several times for short busrst but must be full throttle.
pak zkontrolujte podlahu na výstupním potrubí výfuku, všechny dieselové motory budou při plném plynu produkovat černý kouř, ale co byste neměli mít, je zašpiněná černá podlaha na zadní straně výfuku, to znamená, že přeplňujete palivo, takže někde vzduch Příděl paliva není správný z jakéhokoli důvodu, můj se ukázal jako dělený mezichladič,
zanechalo to mou jednotku s černou podlahou, jakmile byl vyměněn mezichladič a vyčistil výfuk od bahna v něm, udělal jsem stejný test škrticí klapky a i když se mi při plném plynu objevuje malý černý kouř, černý nepořádek se mi nezobrazuje podlaha, můj mpg se okamžitě zlepšil a auto pak jelo velmi dobře.
i will not except any persons saying they have blown their engines on my advice, ive worked in mot stations and we do this test for the emsions as will every mot station who checks your car, you do this at your own risk.
at the same time of chaing my intercooler i cleaned the sensors and changed air filters and checked all pipes and clamps, if you had a turbo issue for example you would have blue smoke, black smoke is unburnt fuel.
in the old days we used to adjust fuel pumps to allow as much fuel as possible until it started to show signs of black smoke under load, this meant the fuel system could not cope with any more fuel, at this point we would reduce it slightly, power was improved.
of course you cant do this to the mondeo with stock equipment unless you change the ecu unit to a mappable unit but then it would cost more than the car was to buy new.
